The Rest of 2014

So the new Jewish year is still fresh–the Yamim Nora’im are not yet over, and the newness is still exciting. But the secular year has begun to wind down and, as Nicole Antoinette points out, we have 92 days of 2014 left.

Why am I talking about this, you may ask?

Simple: I want to live the next 92 days. I want to enjoy them, and relish them, and find a way to turn this trainwreck (aka this entire fucking year) around. I want to fill the next 92 days with moments that make me glad for this year; I want to create better memories so the dark days of the year don’t dominate the conversation.

In her post, Nicole asks her readers to think of one small thing to add to their lives for the rest of the year in order to enrich them. There’s a catch, though: it has to be stated in positive terms.

Because I’m a competitive Taurus, and also an overachiever, I came up with four (!!!!) things I want to do for the rest of 2014–and that I want to continue through 5775 and beyond. Call them my New (Jewish) Year Resolutions, if you will:

  • Set aside time to write every day. Even if it’s just 10-15 minutes. Even if I don’t produce a blog post. Even if all I’m doing is retooling and extending a scene I’ve already written. NaNoWriMo, I am coming for you.
  • Get more sleep. Even if it means something gets done tomorrow. Even if my shows need to wait in DVR another couple of days. Even if it means I have to shift plans around. Time to start saying yes to myself!
  • Move more! Even if it means getting up earlier to go for a run. Even if it means nightly dance parties in my living room. Even if it means running up/down the stairs at work before I go home. Dance classes, I am getting ready for you.
  • Get my shit together. This one isn’t small–that’s why I left it for last. I know that the next 92 days working on this won’t change my life forever… I just want to start building those better habits. I want to eat better, spend less, and treat myself as I deserve. I’m going to start by unfucking my habitat because I deserve it, damn it.

I am starting doing all of these now–because it’s best to not put off until tomorrow what you can accomplish today. What will you do to enrich your life for the next three months?

  1. ❤ I'm going to make more time for my friends and family. I'm also going to apply to grad school! Most importantly I'm going to try to remember every day that I can make myself happy, I don't need anyone else to do it for me.

    • YES! I totally love that last point because it’s been so easy for me to say “I’m not happy because ________________” rather than find ways to make myself happy. ♥

  2. Tienes mucha razón! Porque demorar, aplazar algo que sabes que tienes que hacer! Yo voy a dedicarme mas tiempo a mi!! Lo necesito! Pasar menos corajes, amar más!
    😘😘😘😘😘
